The above title is a heading of a section in Don’t Waste Your Life. Piper quotes Robert Murray M’Cheyne, a Scottish pastor who died in 1843 at the age of twenty-nine. M’Cheyne believed that the mercy and generosity of Christians proved or gave evidence that they were indeed Christians. Below is a quote from M’Cheyne.
I am concerned for the poor [...]

I finished The Barbarian Way last night. This morning I’ve started another book titled Don’t Waste Your Life. It’s by John Piper. He is the pastor of preaching and vision at Bethlehem Baptist Church in Minneapolis, Minnesota. I just watched a DVD message by Piper that came with the book. It’s powerful. The text Piper used [...]

I’m really enjoying The Barbarian Way. Here’s another quote.
No matter how we try to spin the story, the Bible is filled with tribes of irrational people. When Noah built the ark, he did not live in a flood zone. When Elijah called fire down from heaven, he had never tried it before…David should have left [...]

Read half of The Barbarian Way this morning. Here is one quote that stuck out.
The original call of Jesus was so simple, so clean, so clear: “Follow Me.” He wants us to surrender our lives to Him and follow Him into the unknown. And if it means a life of suffering, hardship, and disappointment, it [...]

The elders at OCC have graciously given me a week to get away and study. I’m at an “undisclosed location” praying, reading, planning, studying, and just catching up on things. What a blessing this is! I’ve set 7 goals for this week. One of the goals is to read three books. It’s time to start the [...]

Over to the right under “Pages” I’ve added a new page titled “What I’m Reading.” Check it out!
WARNING: Just because I’m reading something doesn’t mean I endorse it. The only book I can wholeheartedly endorse is the Bible. Everything else is open for discussion. If you’ve read any of the books I’ve listed, I’d love to [...]

I dug something out of my files a few weeks ago. It’s 10 Questions to Refocus Your Life by Bob Biehl. I’m so glad I stumbled across this. I first picked this up from a pastor-friend of mine - Brian Jones - while serving with him at Christ’s Church of the Valley in the suburbs of Philadelphia. What a [...]

Beth and Noah visited Rolling Ridge Ranch yesterday. It’s an Amish-owned exotic animal farm with 500-600 animals from around the world. Noah loved it! Check it out!

I need your help. I’m golfing in the 13th Annual Caring for Kids Classic on Monday, August 27th. It’s a fundraiser for the Christian Children’s Home of Ohio (CCHO). CCHO is a wonderful organization. They provide residential care for children and also foster care and adoption services…and much more! Click here to find out more [...]

Friday was the final day of the annual Mulpas Golf Outing. My dad, brother and I played four 18-hole rounds last week. We played Apple Valley on Tuesday, Mohican Hills on Wednesday, The Pines on Thursday, and the Hawks Nest on Friday. I am golfed out! I haven’t played that much golf in a long time. It [...]
